Enter your data into the program. You
can set the "NumLock" button on your keyboard to
"on", and enter most of the data using the keyboard numeric
pad. Note several features:
Must Enter: Certain items, such as audit
date, service unit, number of active patients in the registry, and
patient's sex are required by the audit program. You must enter data for
these items. However, after the initial record, most of these items will
be automatically entered for you, and only need to be re-entered if
their value changes.
Automatic calculations: The program
automatically calculates several items for you. For example, you can
enter the height in feet and inches and the program will calculate the
total height in inches. If you already have the height in inches, you
may enter that under "inches". Other items automatically
calculated include patient's age, duration of diabetes, BMI, mean
systolic and mean diastolic blood pressure.
Data entry messages: The program will give
you an error message if you enter a value that is outside of the
expected range for that field. If your entry is clearly incorrect it may
erase what you entered and require you to re-enter the value. At other
times it merely asks you to double check to be sure that your entry was
what you intended.

MAKE A BACKUP COPY OF YOUR DATA!!!
It's a good idea to make a backup copy of your audit file EVERY TIME you
finish entering data. This can save you considerable time and grief if
something should happen to your original data. You can easily make a
backup by copying your data onto a diskette. To do this, go to Epi Info's
ANALYSIS program, and type at the EPI6> prompt:
COPY C:\EPI6\AUDIT07.REC A: <ENTER>
This will place a copy of AUDIT07.REC on the diskette,
which can then be labeled and kept in a safe place.
