FY 2007 Audit Instructions

15.  THE MEANS REPORT

A small supplemental audit report called the Means Report is available to you.  It provides the calculated average (mean) values for many of the numeric audit items, such as age, duration of diabetes, blood pressure, BMI, HbA1c, LDL-Chol, HDL-Chol, and others.

To print the Means Report, begin with a READ statement in Epi Info's ANALYSIS (it is important to do this, even if you had previously read in your dataset, as it "resets" certain variables). Always start with a new READ command!

At the EPI6> prompt, type: READ AUDIT07 <ENTER>

Press <F5> if you wish the output to go to the printer, or skip this step if you want the report to go to your computer screen only.

At the next EPI6> prompt, type: RUN MEANS07 <ENTER>

The Means Report will now be printed (or will appear only on your screen, if you did not push <F5>).

With some networked or newer printers, especially those using USB connections, Epi Info will fail to recognize the printer and no printing will occur, even after pressing <F5> to route output to the printer. If this should occur, use the following sequence of commands to route the report to a text file:

READ AUDIT07.REC
ROUTE filename.TXT    (where filename is any name of 8 characters or less)
RUN MEANS07.PGM

Now exit Epi Info entirely. Go to MS Word, and open the text file (it will be found in the C:\EPI6 folder, generally). Edit the document as necessary and then print the document in the usual manner from MS Word.
